For Administrators
Axiell Designer A tool for designing, creating, customizing and managing Axiell Collections applications and databases, broadly speaking, the Axiell Collections Model Application. As well as managing databases, including user access and permissions, Designer is used for such tasks as translating field labels, tooltips, values in drop lists, etc. is available to Application Administrators for designing, creating, customizing and managing Axiell Collections applications and databases (screens and fields), broadly speaking, for administration of the Model Application. Beyond management of databases, including user access and permissions, Axiell Designer is used for a range of purposes, including tasks such as translation of field labels, tooltips, and values in drop lists. Amongst other administrative tasks it is used for:
- Database maintenance: set up of tables, fields, relationships, indexing strategy.
- Security maintenance: creation of roles, groups and access control lists to objects.
- Application maintenance: menu options, screen layout, output formats.
- Import and export of data.
- Adapl script editing and compilation.

Configuration and customization within Axiell Collections itself
While a dedicated tool may always be required for management of certain advanced features of Axiell Collections applications and databases, recent iterations of the Collections Model Application aim to reduce reliance on Axiell Designer for the configuration and customization of Axiell Collections. Amongst other changes, Model Application 5.2 allows users to upload their own templates as output formats An Output format is an XSLT style sheet or Microsoft Word or Excel template that specifies what fields are included in a report or printed output, and how the data is laid out and styled. for printing and reporting purposes, something that previously required Axiell Designer.
The Standard Model (Model Application 6.0) accelerates the move away from reliance on Designer, significantly increasing the number of fields available out-of-the-box, thereby reducing the need to customize Collections in the first place. It also provides tools that enable Application Administrators to manage some system configurations and customizations within Collection itself. To this end, the System admin - occurrence defaults data source is introduced, and the Thesaurus has been expanded and split into two parts, Thesaurus and System lists. Authorized users are able to define and set default values in System admin - occurrence defaults; and in System lists they are able to manage lists of controlled values such as condition terms, method types, action types, fee activities, acquisition reasons, units, etc.
Access to these data sources is restricted to users assigned the $ADMIN
role (typically Application Administrators).
